Maximum-shortest-path (MSP) is not optimal for a general N×N torus

چکیده
A shortest-path routing is optimal if it maximizes the probability of reaching the destination from a given source, assuming that each link in the system has a given failure probability. An approximation for the shortest-path routing policy, maximumshortest-path (MSP) routing was proposed by Wu [3]. Reference [3] • shows that MSP is optimal in the mesh and hypercube networks, • shows that MSP is at least suboptimal in the torus network, • shows that MSP is optimal for 6 6 and 8 8 tori, • conjectured that MSP is optimal for 2-D tori in general. This short paper shows that, contrary to the claims in [3], MSP is not optimal for a general torus—specifically, MSP is not optimal for a 12 12 torus, and its optimal routing depends on the success probability.

Two optimal algorithms for finding bi-directional shortest path design problem in a block layout
In this paper, Shortest Path Design Problem (SPDP) in which the path is incident to all cells is considered. The bi-directional path is one of the known types of configuration of networks for Automated Guided Vehi-cles (AGV).To solve this problem, two algorithms are developed. For each algorithm an Integer Linear Pro-gramming (ILP) is determined. The objective functions of both algorithms are t...
متن کاملOptimal coverage paths in ad-hoc sensor networks
This paper discusses the computation of optimal coverage paths in an ad-hoc network consisting of n sensors. Improved algorithms, with a preprocessing time of O(n log n), to compute a maximum breach/support path P in optimal O(|P |) time or the maximum breach/support value in O(1) time are presented. Algorithms for computing a shortest path that has maximum breach/support are also provided. Exp...
متن کاملApproximation Solutions for Time-Varying Shortest Path Problem
Abstract. Time-varying network optimization problems have tradition-ally been solved by specialized algorithms. These algorithms have NP-complement time complexity. This paper considers the time-varying short-est path problem, in which can be optimally solved in O(T(m + n)) time, where T is a given integer. For this problem with arbitrary waiting times,we propose an approximation algorithm, whic...
متن کاملGreen Wave: Latency and Capacity-Efficient Sleep Scheduling for Wireless Networks Technical Report
While scheduling the nodes in a wireless network to sleep periodically can save energy, it also incurs higher latency and lower throughput. We consider the problem of designing optimal sleep schedules in wireless networks, and show that finding sleep schedules that can minimize the latency over a given subset of source-destination pairs is NP-hard. We also derive a latency lower bound given by ...
متن کاملOn the complexity of multi-dimensional interval routing schemes
Multi-dimensional interval routing schemes (MIRS) introduced in [4] are an extension of interval routing schemes (IRS). We give an evidence that multi-dimensional interval routing schemes really help for certain well-known interconnection networks, e.g. for n-dimensional butterfly there exists a full-information shortest path 〈2, 3〉-DIS-MIRS, while in [12] it was shown that a shortest path IRS ...
